The District

Your apartment is located one block from the ‘Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers’, the French State University for applied sciences. This area is also named the ‘Haut Marais’, the high part of Marais area, in the 3rd district (arrondissement) of Paris, to make the difference with the south part of Marais located in the 4th district.

Like many areas in Paris, the face of this district changed a lot over the last 30 years. Instead of small workshops, cabinetmakers, tailors or goldsmiths, you will now discover trendy restaurants, organic food stores, art galleries, new designers and creators. You will maybe see the ‘Carreau du Temple’: this former second hand clothes market is going to be turned up in a cultural and sport hall, keeping its historic metal structures dating back to the 19th century.

The area is living a real metamorphosis: private mansions from the 17th and 18th centuries, old buildings completely renovated, enlarged sidewalks with more trees: walkers and bikers are getting always more place in this part of the city!.

A 10 minutes walk and you will reach the very heart of the City of Lights! Walk down on rue Beaubourg or Rue Saint Martin and you will be on Piazza Beaubourg, right by Beaubourg and the National Museum of Modern Art.

An other option: walk down on Rue de Turbigo and you will reach the Forum des Halles, the largest shopping mall in France, the largest (underground) railway et metro station, but also a huge garden with its panorama on Saint Eustache Church and Beaubourg…
On an opposite direction, you can walk until Place de la République: you will be few steps from the romantic Canal Saint Martin.

Your flat is also ideally located right between 2 very similar, and at the same time very distinctive areas. On the east side, during the day or all the night long, the Marais will offer you its numerous bars, ‘delicatessen’, restaurants and clubs…
On the west side, ‘Montorgueil’ is a part of a large pedestrian area. Have a look on the food stores, restaurants and trendy fashion or home decoration shops: this is the area showed to Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II as a ‘popular Parisian street’…

The apartment is on the 3rd floor of a building dating back to 1650. At that time, it depended from a sumptuous mansion on Rue des Gravilliers.

Completely renovated in year 2004 by a young Syrian architect, we try to make an intimate place, full of charm and warmth. With its large proportions, its high ceilings with authentic wood beams, the polished floor tiles and the large fireplace, you will feel a ‘out of the time’ atmosphere.
With a total surface of 67 sq mt, the flat can accommodate from one up to four persons (two adults in the bedroom, one adult or two children in the sofa bed). The spacious living room is looking north, opening on the street. On the opposite side, the bedroom enjoys a south exposure, and overlooks a large courtyard.

Description of the apartment:

Just after the front door, a long corridor leads you successively to the bedroom, the open-kitchen and the living-room. We hope you will like the 4 monochrome photos of New York City in the 40’.

The bedroom:

The bedroom is bright, with a modern and clear wooden floor. It opens on the courtyard: even in the heart of Paris, you will enjoy quiet nights. A large and functional wardrobe, with drawers, shelves, is at your disposal.
We made the choice to have TV set (with cable TV and DVD player) in front of the bed to check the news early in the morning or late at night…

The bathroom:

The bathroom is ‘en suite’ with the bedroom. Tiled in red-and-white, with a contemporary mirror, a washbasin and a large shower, it’s a bright room to start a bright day in Paris!

The ‘open’ kitchen:

It’s a functional place… and, by our own experience, a friendly one in the apartment thanks to its bar between the kitchen and the living room. During a dinner or a party, you will be cooking and at the same time with your friends, drinking a glass of good wine at the bar…
The kitchen is well-equipped, with refrigerator, freezer, oven, vitro ceramic, extractor, microwave, toaster, 2 coffee makers (including a ‘Nespresso’© machine), a wash-machine and all kitchen utensils..
For the gourmets, if you have time and like to cook, you will find in the kitchen and on the book shelves some cooking books (in French), and some books about vineyards and most famous French wines.

The living room:

On our own mind, this is really the heart of the apartment, where you will like to rest after a terrible and exhausting Parisian day, also where you will prepare your next walking tour in Paris, or where you will welcome your friends!
You will feel this room as very spacious and warm with its 35 sq mt, opening with two large windows on the street. Around the Chinese coffee table, facing the fireplace, two contemporary and comfortable armchairs and a large sofa make this a pleasant place to read or have a drink….
On a winter evening, do not hesitate: light a fire, and, for a romantic evening, have your dinner on the coffee table to enjoy the rare pleasure of a real fireplace, the smell and the light of the wood…
Have a look on the book shelves: you will find there guide books about Paris, art books, travel magazines, restaurants guides (some of them in English): just few ideas for your next day… or your next trip to Paris!

The ‘dining room’ finds its place by the windows, with a contemporary table. In the Chinese furniture and in the old commode, you will find dishes, glasses, tableware, table-clothes, sets of table and candles to arrange a nice table for an intimate dinner for two or with your friends.
